Congratulations to the Albany High School Soccer Teams. Both had outstanding regular seasons. The boys won league and have now advanced to the NCS Championship game at Cougar Field on Saturday, February 25 at 3:30 p.m. Come on out and cheer the Cougars on to the title. The girls had the best W-L record in league but didn't win because of too many ties. Nevertheless, they won their first two NCS playoff games in stirring fashion but fell on Wednesday night and were knocked out of the tournament. So, get on out and make some noise for the boys on Saturday afternoon. Go Cougars!!
Congratulations to the AHS Wrestling team which brought home its 13th straight league title. A special congratulations to the 9 wrestlers who were league champs in their respective weight classes. They are (weight class in parentheses): Trevor San

(152), Garon Pelasauma (162), Alex Malanche (172), Nir Maoz (197), Bob
Ely (222), and Karma Thinlay (287). They move on to the NCS individual competitions next week (AHS won the NCS dual team title last week).

Well-Balanced Student: Juggling Homework, Activities and Family” will be
held Tuesday,
Feb. 28,
7-8:30
p.m. at the Albany Community Center, 1249 Marin Ave. (at Masonic).
Speaker
Gina Morris is the Parent Education Program Director for Challenge Success,
a program of the Stanford University School of Education. For more
on Challenge Success, see www.challengesuccess.org.
In
this presentation you will: 1. Learn how the
increasing demands and high expectations placed on students by
parents, peers and school can often have unintentional but damaging
effects. 2. Learn how students today are
coping --
or not -- with the academic pressure they face. 3. Discover
simple ways your family can counter the fast-paced culture without
sacrificing achievement or engagement in school.
The talk is the
first in a four-part series, “Student Success & Student Stress,”
sponsored by the AUSD Wellness Committee and the district’s combined
PTAs. The talks are for parents and caregivers of all students, K-12.

After reviewing the data from our new tardy policy we are encouraged to
see the overall positive effect on student attendance. Teachers report
fewer interruptions to classes due to tardy students, a notable
improvement in the learning environment. We have determined that
students with 5 or more tardies will serve lunch and/or after school
detention as a consequence to violating the policy. Students with 5 or more tardies in a two week period will
be notified during the week following Mid-Winter Break and report to detention. A pattern of tardies
will result in attendance "intervention" meetings with administrators,
students, and parents, and in some cases have already taken place. Our goal is to improve attendance overall, encourage greater accountability, and reduce the disruptions to classes when students arrive late to class. Thanks to everyone for the collective effort!
Congratulations to Albany High's Amnesty International Club for their first place award in

Greene. A congratulations to all involved in promoting social justice.
