No. 106 General - Tardy Policy Update: Consequences for Excessive Tardies
- After reviewing the data from our new tardy policy we are encouraged to see the overall positive effect on student attendance. Teachers report fewer interruptions to classes due to tardy students, a notable improvement in the learning environment. We have determined that students with 5 or more tardies will serve lunch and/or after school detention as a consequence to violating the policy. Students with 5 or more tardies in a two week period will be notified during the week following Mid-Winter Break and report to detention. A pattern of tardies will result in attendance "intervention" meetings with administrators, students, and parents, and in some cases have already taken place. Our goal is to improve attendance overall, encourage greater accountability, and reduce the disruptions to classes when students arrive late to class. Thanks to everyone for the collective effort!
