AHS A-G Lists for UC's and CSU's

The University of California A-G (A through G) requirements outline high school courses designated by the Academic Senate of the University of California as appropriate for fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements for admission to the University of California. It also illustrates the minimum level of academic preparation students ought to achieve in high school to undertake university level work.

Cash for College

Cash for College Night
Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012
6:30-8:30 PM
AHS Library

This event is designed to help college-bound seniors and their parents understand and complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The workshop is free and participating seniors will be eligible to enter a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship!

Filing the FAFSA is the first step in most financial aid searches. Please be aware that your FAFSA must be filed by March 2 in order for you to be eligible for a Cal Grant.

What you need for the Cash for College workshop:
1. Student and parent Social Security numbers or Alien Registration numbers. You will have to enter your name on the FAFSA exactly as it appears on your social security card. If you are undocumented---that is, if you do not have a social security or alien registration number-- please see your counselor before you plan to attend the evening presentation. We have some specific information for undocumented students.
2. Your family's most recent federal tax forms (1040s, W-2s, etc.). You will not have to reveal this information to anyone, but you will need it to complete the forms. If your family's 2011 federal tax returns are not yet ready, bring 2010 returns for estimating.

3. If you or your parent already has a FAFSA pin, be sure to have that PIN with you! If a sibling has already filed a FAFSA, or if your parent or guardian has filed a FAFSA for him/herself, that parent/guardian will use the same pin when filing for you.

4. We will be using the computers in the library, so be sure you know how to log on.

Cash for College is presented by East Bay Consortium/Cal-SOAP and the East Bay Cash for College Coalition

3 other important announcements:

1. The Counseling Office will submit GPA’s electronically for all seniors, as long as we have your social security number on file. In this case, you do not need to submit a Cal Grant GPA verification form individually. You should have been notified if we do not have your social security number, and there is a list of those students available in the Counseling Office. If you do not act on this notification, we will not send your GPA verification electronically, and you will need to submit your own GPA verification form BEFORE MARCH 2. If you are undocumented, you will not be able to apply for a Cal Grant or fill out the FAFSA. For other ideas and resources if you are in this situation, see your counselor.

2.If you applied to private colleges, we will automatically submit “mid-year reports” when first semester transcripts are available. These will be ready to send the second week of February. This will be a simple process for Common App schools. For any private schools not on the Common App, you should check and see if they require a mid-year report. Most of you supplied envelopes for the mid-year report with your application packet, but if you did not, you should immediately provide your counselor with a stamped (one stamp), addressed envelope. Ms. Burns will submit mid-year reports for Mr. Kagawa’s seniors.

3. Be sure to check email regularly for any updated information or requests for information from the colleges to which you have applied. We emphasize this for students who have applied to a CSU campus--- check your CSU “portal” as well as your email so you don’t miss any important announcements or requests.
